The Cayman Islands have been taken off the Financial Action Task Force's watchlist. The news that Cayman has been given the all-clear was broken to the CI Financial Secretary earlier this month by FATF president Jochan Sanio. In a letter to Financial Secretary George McCarthy, Mr. Sanio said the decision to take the Cayman Islands off the watchlist came "in recognition of the territory's continuing commitment to international anti-money laundering efforts and implementing its anti-money laundering regime". The letter went on to say that as a result of the Cayman Islands' efforts, the FATF would no longer "formally monitor" the situation in the Cayman Islands. It did add, however, that the Americas Review Group would continue to monitor developments in the region.
